What are fabric conditioner and detergent? What’s the difference?
Fabric conditioner and detergent each play an important role in making your clothes clean and fresh. But what does each one actually do? Can fabric conditioner clean clothes as well as freshen them? Here Lenor explains everything you need to know about fabric conditioner vs laundry detergent, and how they work together during a laundry cycle.
What Does Laundry Detergent Do?
Your clothes do a lot of dirty work. During an average day, they can pick up sweat, skin cells, food particles, dirt, hair, and more. Laundry detergent helps remove all this during a wash — so, just as shampoo cleans your hair, laundry detergent does the heavy lifting when it comes to cleaning your clothes in your washing machine. As well as removing everyday dirt and grime, detergent can also remove more stubborn stains such as mud, blood and make-up.
Is fabric conditioner the same as fabric softener?
You might be wondering what the difference is between fabric softener and fabric conditioner. The answer is nothing! They’re just two different names used for the same product.
What Does Fabric Conditioner Do?
Just as conditioner protects your hair, Lenor Fabric Conditioner helps protect your clothes.
While detergent gets your laundry nice and clean, Lenor strengthens the fabrics and helps reduce friction during the laundry process, which helps clothes keep their original shape, reduce colour fading, and reduce bobbling. As well as protecting your clothes it also helps them to feel wonderfully soft and, of course, smell beautiful. Used together, detergent and fabric conditioner will make your clothes clean, soft and fresh — and help them last for longer.
Do you know the ins and outs of fabric conditioner?
Whether it’s the joy of slipping between clean sheets or the comfort of pulling on your newly-washed favourite jumper, fresh laundry is one of life’s simplest pleasures. Fabric conditioner plays an important part in that just-washed feeling by helping to soften your clothes and make them smell wonderfully fresh. But it does a whole lot more than that, too. FAQs
Is fabric conditioner the same as detergent?
Fabric conditioners and laundry detergents are used for different purposes. While detergent is responsible for thoroughly cleaning your laundry, fabric conditioner enhances the durability of fabrics and reduces friction during the laundering procedure and helps them to feel wonderfully soft and smell beautiful. When combined, these two products result in clean, soft, and fresh clothes while also extending their lifespan.
Is fabric conditioner the same as a fabric softener?
There is no difference between a fabric conditioner and a fabric softener. Both terms are merely alternative labels for identical products.
Do you use fabric conditioners with detergent?
To provide the best and most clean clothes, Lenor recommends that you use fabric conditioner with detergent.
Always start by using the right detergent. Bold All-in-1 Pods thoroughly clean your clothes, removing even the invisible stains that are set deep in the fibers of the fabric.
Remember to add Lenor fabric softener, such as our Lenor Outdoorables range, which will soften your clothes and give them that irresistibly fresh smell. If you’re wondering where fabric softener goes, for a front-loading washing machine, fabric softener is placed in your machine at the same time as the detergent, before you start a wash. Your dispenser drawer should have a special compartment, which is usually marked with a star or flower icon. Check your washing machine’s manual to be sure. Unlike detergent, fabric softener shouldn’t ever be put directly in the drum.
For a top-loading machine, if your machine has a softener compartment, pour one cap of fabric softener at the start of the wash cycle. Otherwise, pour one cap of fabric softener into the machine tub during the last rinse cycle.
